Wednesday 16th October.

Girls Hockey. Away to Drogheda Grammar School.

Senior A

The Senior A girls won their game against Drogheda Grammar School with a score of 3-1. The game was very equal in the first half with both teams scoring a goal. Favour did very well playing forward, a position she's never played before and scoring the first goal. The team played exceptionally well in the second half. Aramide took control of the ball on many occasions and scored the second goal. It was Ella's first time playing with Wilson's and the team worked very well with her. Eunice, at right back was always there to hit the ball to the forwards. In centre-mid, Jenna played really well for the first time in that position. In the last ten minutes of the game, Emily scored the final goal for the girls.

Minor B
The First Year girls did very well in their first game, but unfortunately lost the game 5-0. The goalie, Ella was playing very well and saved many goals that came at her. Lola was playing extremely well and brought the ball as far as she could on many occasions. At half time, the score was 3-0. When the girls got back on the pitch, they began to bring the ball up to the forwards. The Wilson’s girls got a short corner and did very well attacking but unfortunately missed the goal. Tori and Annalise played very well in their positions and helped the team get the ball forward. It was a very good game for their first time playing a match. Well done girls.

Junior Game
The Junior girls lost their match against Drogheda Grammar School 2-0. They started off the game very well. Sadly near the beginning of the match the other team scored a goal after having a short corner. Chidera did amazingly in the goals and saved many other shots. Alice and Aoibhin played very good in their positions, always keeping their eyes on the ball. Leila was always ready for the ball to come down to our defence and played excellently. The girls showed a lot of improvement in the second half after their team talk with their coach. Robyn was always after the ball and made sure to pass it up to the forwards to get it near the goals. The girls played well today and it’s unfortunate they lost this one but will have many more games to play well in.

Boys Rugby.

Senior Rugby

Our SCT travelled to The King’s Hospital School on Wednesday to take on their Senior 2s. After a very competitive first half WHS led 10-5 with tries coming from Denians and Ben.

In the second half Wilson's really found their groove and added tries through David (3), Denians and Evan. Ben and Mark added 3 conversions between them to leave the final score 41-5.

This was an excellent performance from the Seniors and by far their most consistent this year to date. Up front David, Ola, Jeffery and Walter led the charge while Thomas, Jack and Nempan were the pick of the backs. David gets the nod for Man of the Match with an all action display in the defence and attack.

Junior 1s

Our Junior 1s lost out narrowly to Temple Carrig in the division 1B league 20-14. Poor defence by times allowed Temple Carrig in for a couple of "soft" and very costly tries. Scores from Wilson's came from Ross and Eoghan. The Junior 1s must regroup as they travel to Skerries next Wednesday for round 3 of the League.

Junior 2s

Our Junior 2s hosted CBS Naas in a friendly. They came up against what was a very physical Naas team and after conceding a few early scores battled back well to put some respectability on the board. Top performers up front were Edward, James and Fintan, while Michael and Jude were the pick of the backs.

Thursday 17th October.

Rugby.

The Senior Girls Rugby team travelled to play the Longford U18 club team. Longford were first on the scoreboard after a long period of attack inside the Wilson’s 22. It wasn’t long however until Wilson’s got their chance to attack the Longford try line with Ellen finishing 2 tries, one of which was converted by Aoibhin. Longford responded to the Wilson’s tries scoring another well worked forwards try again after a long period of attack inside the Wilson’s 22.

Half time arrived and the Wilson’s girls caught their breath. They returned to the field in the second half determined to secure the victory. Maria who had tackled superbly throughout the first half made a break for the try line to be stopped just short. A clean ruck allowed Wilson’s to maintain possession and Isobel finally crossed the line for Wilson’s third try. Longford responded quickly from the kick off scoring their third try leaving just 2 points between the teams. Wilson’s determination to win once again kicked in and after Longford turned the ball over in their own 22 and kicked to clear their lines Isabel who was having a great game caught the clearance and quickly capitalized on this to give Wilson’s a 7 point lead. With seven minutes left to play and 7 points ahead, the Wilson’s girls quenched Longford’s hopes of drawing the game when Faith made a break and fought hard to reach the tryline. Aoibhin converted leaving the score 29-15 to Wilson’s.

The First Years boys hosted Mullingar u13's in their first game under lights. This was also this groups’ first game on the main pitch and they didn't disappoint as they produced some excellent rugby throughout. Mullingar were also fantastic throughout and fronted up very well to what was an older and physically bigger team.

WHS took the lead in the first half through Callum who produced plenty of quality moments throughout. Mullingar should have levelled the scores had their winger lost control of the ball over the line when it looked easier to score. George, Josh, Jake and Callum (again) added scores in the first half to put the first years in control at half time. Mullingar battled hard and got just reward at in the first half with a try of their own.

In the second half Alex added a try early after a quick tap from scrumhalf Jack. Killian and a late brace from debutante Darren (playing his first game of rugby) finished off the scoring. Mullingar added another excellent try late in the game.

Up front the pack worked hard throughout with George, Sean and Fintan with some excellent tackling. In the backs Killian led the line well with some great contributions from Jack Mc, Jake and John.

Next Wednesday the 1st years host Longford under 13s again under lights with a 7PM kick off. Well done boys. Keep up the good work.

Debating.

Eight students from Forms 2 and 3 travelled with Mr Burke to UCD Belfield Campus for the first round of the UCD Junior School Debates. Wilson’s were proposing that “This house would ban private healthcare in Ireland” and opposing the motion “This house would legalise the use of drugs which enhance academic performance.”

Caoimhe and Aimee from Form 3 were delighted to win 2nd place in their set of 6 schools, while Sarah and Andrea, also Form 3, placed 3rd in their set of 8 schools. Competition was intense, with all teams from a mix of private and public schools across the country performing to a very high standard. Charlotte and Grace from Form 1, and Kitty and Roisin from Form 3, also received high points from judges.

This was a great start to the Junior Debating season. The next round at UCD will be on Thursday 7 November. Onwards and upwards!

Friday 18th October.

Basketball. The Senior Boys were playing today. They made the journey to Finglas, Dublin to play an All-Ireland cup match against Benevin School. Within the first 10 minutes of the match, Shalom made a strong start by scoring a point. For the remaining of the first quarter, Marco and Shalom worked well together to then score another point followed by great ball skills by Stefan and Ola. In the second quarter of the game, the team remained strong and scored another point within the first 5 minutes. Despite strong pressure from Benevin the boys managed to keep going and maintained a good lead. For the remainder of the match, the boys worked in unity to work the ball up the court where Duvall, Marco and Shalom then scored on the teams behalf. The Wilson’s boys maintained a strong lead until the last quarter when Benevin made a strong comeback. Unfortunately, the game ended with tight score of 39-36 to Benevin after two over time plays.

Soccer. Plenty of goals in the this  first round cup match for the u15 Boys. Unfortunately we were on the wrong side of a 9-5 defeat!

Clara stormed into an early 3-0 lead, but with 5 minutes to go to half-time we pegged the score back to 4-3. Another goal for Clara before the break doubled their advantage. It was to be a long second half for Wilson's chasing the game. Despite Charlie (on his debut in goal) making a wonderful save from a penalty and also the follow up, we thought our luck may turn but it wasn't to be and Clara soon added a sixth with a powerful header from a corner. Both teams traded goals to make the score 8-5 and that was the way it stayed til nearly the last kick of the game when Clara added a ninth. Wilson's goalscorers: Divine (4), Darren (1)

Man of the Match was Divine with great drive and never say die attitude – it’s not often you score four goals in a match and end up on the loosing team.
