Hockey.  The First Year Girls hockey team made the journey to Headford School to play a Meath & District league match. The game got off to a competitive start with Tori in mid-field and Alex in the sweeper position working well together to keep the ball away from Wilson’s territory. Headford put up a very strong fight but the Wilson’s back line were not phased with Kate making an enthused effort to deflect and stop anything that came her way. Towards the end of the first half, Headford had scored but the Wilson’s girls did not let it effect them and went on to demonstrate great skill.

The second half got off to an excellent start with the mid-fields and forwards working in unison to carry the ball into Headford’s back line. Despite the unfortunate scoreboard, the Wilson’s girls kept their heads high and represented their school extremely well and displayed great team work and enthusiasm. The Wilson’s back line composed of Jocelyn, Vanessa and Lola, played with great passion and energy which had a substantial influence of the remainder of the team. The game concluded with a disappointing score in Headford’s favour but the Wilson’s girls remained positive and hopeful for their next hockey endeavour.

Soccer. Wilson's U15 Soccer girls played against Larkin Community College. Unfortunately, Wilson's were unlucky in the first game out of the year with a loss to Larkin College. Nonetheless, the girls played very well against a strong, experienced opposition team. The first half saw a strong forward performance from Isabelle with a goal.  With a few changes the second half was a better performance by all players and Áine was a strong goal keeper. Maria and Isabelle with the help from Alex at mid field kept a lot of pressure on in the second half with a lot of goal opportunities and Marie scored a smashing goal from a penalty but unfortunately it wasn't Wilson's day. Player of the game was Lauren who played excellently in defence. Onwards and upwards for the team.

Rugby. Our Senior Boys Rugby Team opened their McMullan Cup campaign at home on Thursday afternoon to Ardee Community College.

A really aggressive start by our boys seemed to catch Ardee cold. Scott was first to score showing excellent footwork to beat the full back and score under the posts. Mark scored a more routine try two minutes later after the ground work had been made by David who made a 60 yard break. Evan and Denians also added scores in the first half leaving the score 27-0 at the break.

The second half was a more even affair with both sides getting one try each. Denians was again the scorer for Wilson’s after some great handling from Ben. Final score 34-5.

In total 10 boys made their Senior Cup debut this afternoon and it was great they could all get game time in front of the lively home support. It was lovely to see some many siblings out supporting members of the team.

Jeffery, Walter, Mark and Harry were exceptional up front while Dominic, Thomas and Evan were the pick of the backs. Michael was Man of the Match with an all action performance in the 7 jersey.
