WHS had a spectacular win in their first Senior Cup girls match of the season against Ard Scoil Naofa Ciarain, Clara today. The girls are now through to the semi final. Evelyn set up a fantastic goal which was passed to Leonie and into Aoibheann who scored the first goal for Wilson's. The second goal came from a great run by Faith who skilfully manoeuvred around the opposition and took her shot. The defense line of both Ellen's, Eunice and Leah played exceptionally well. Jennifer blocked all but one ball which came her way in goals proving to be a strong keeper for the Wilson's side. Well done to all 15 girls who travelled today. Great play & team spirit by all the players and subs. Joint players of match were Evelyn & Leah.
Wedneday 11th December.
Hockey. The Minor A girls hockey team started a very strong side against a skilful Newbridge college .
Defence were on their game with great clearance from Lauren , Anna and Dodo. Jane keep the ball moving out to midfields and defended extremely well to keep Wilsons 0-0 at half time. There were some brilliant saves from Laura who stepped into goals at short notice.
After half time Wilsons looked to be on form to take the lead with many attacks on goal from Sarah, Leah, Ella and Alva but unfortunately it wasn’t to be.
In the last minutes of the game midfields kept great pace to get back and defend but it wasn’t to be as Newbridge got a short corner and scored a goal with seconds from the end of the game. The final score was 0-1.
Badminton. A range of teams played in a friend event against The Royal School, Cavan. More details to follow.
An experimental Senior Boys Rugby team travelled to Terenure college to take on their Senior 3s in a friendly. In what was a very entertaining game Terenure eventually came out on top - winning 46-31. Scores for Wilson's came from Mark, Shalom (1st try for the school), Dominic (1st for the school), David and Joe. Thomas who was playing at Outhalf kicked 3 conversions.
This was an outstanding display from this group of boys given they were missing nine starters from the team that played St Paul's in the Cup last Monday.
In the pack Mark, Jeffery and David were to the fore while Joe, Shalom and Dominic were excellent in the backs. Thomas was Man of the Match, putting in a fantastic display in attack and defence.
Thursday 12th December. The girls who play sports in the school had an Christmas Outing involving ice skating, eating and a movie!
