Wednesday 18th October.
Rugby. The Senior Boys team travelled to Navan RFC today in search of their second league win in as many weeks. St. Pat's Classical School, unbeaten in the league so far, were always going to provide stiff opposition. WHS were without some key players and struggled with the early pace and found themselves down 21-0 after 20 minutes. In truth Wilson's were the authors of their own misfortune. Missed tackles, poor kicking and poor line speed were a constant feature of the opening half. WHS did respond with a try from No. 10 Ryan late in the first half to leave the score 21-5 at the break.
A good start to the second half was going to be key to any Wilson's fight back. Unfortunately the complete opposite occured and we found ourselves under the posts again after 2 missed tackles in midfield. Wilson's did score next with a try from influential No. 8 William. St. Pat's went on to score the best try of the game through their full back and take the score to 33-12 with 7 minutes remaining.
To their credit the boys never gave up and did manage to score the next two tries to gain a losing bonus point. Alex ran half the length of the field for the first and William barged over the last play of the game leaving the final score 26-33. Owen, Richard and William all put in decent performances for Wilson's while Alex was our top performer on the day. The Senior Boys must re-group for the final game of the league mext week when they welcome De La Salle Churchtown to Multyfarnham.
Saturday 21st October.
