Rugby: Wilson's Junior Boys Team played Scoil Clonglais today in the Junior Div 1B final. They battled extremely well against a very physical side eventually losing 22-8 to the defending league champions. The boys can be very proud of their performance and route to the final beating the likes of St Andrews, Skerries CC and Newpark along the way.
Scoil Clonglais started well and were ahead 5-0 after 2 minutes. WHS regrouped very well and forced a penalty converted by Sam. Scoil Clonglais replied with a converted try of their own through their ever dangerous outhalf.
Wilson's were to get the last score of the first half with a well worked try through hooker Mark. This left the half time score 12-8 with Wilson's causing SC real problems.
The second half was a ferocious battle with Scoil Clonglais adding 2 further tries to pull out away. To Wilson's credit they never stopped tackling and pass some great ground through Evan, Ben and Jeffery.
The boys would like to thank all the support who turned out in Donnybrook to cheer them on. Not the result we wanted but we will be back. Special mention to Michael and Mark who were named joint captains today after the players voted. Jeffery was named vice captain. Congratulations to the squad and their coach Mr Draper on getting to the final of this competition. There are more pictures on the school's Facebook page.

Rugby. This afternoon WHS Senior Boys Rugby team took on Noordvaal RFC from Cape Town in South Africa. Noordvaal are a schools representative team and a feeder team for The Lions Super Rugby franchise.
Although apprehensive our senior team looked forward to taking on the South Africans in Multyfarnham. Wilson's started well and matched the South Africans physically in the early stages. Ryan made some great touch kicks after early penalties given away by the consistently ill disciplined South Africans. Noordvaal did eventually score after 15 minutes. Some strong runs by their enormous front 5 provided the momentum for the number 8 and captain up finally crash over the line. The Touring side added another try before half time to leave the score 12-0 at the break. WHS had defended very well in the first half against a very physical and hard running SA side.
The first score of the second half was going to be crucial and unfortunately it fell to the visitors. An excellent run by their number 13 almost straight from the kick off. To their credit Wilson's kept battling and added 2 tries of their own. Laurence's first for the school Ryan adding the second. Noordvaal did add 2 late try's to put some gloss on to score line. Final score 34-10. On a day where WHS had to front up physically - David, Alex and William were excellent. Ryan and Richard the pick of the backs.
