Wednesday 26th September.
Hockey. The Senior A and Junior A girls squads travelled to Dundalk Grammar School for their opening matches in the Leinster League. The Junior team were, unfortunately, well beaten by a superior Dundalk side. Looking quite lost and confused in the first half, they gained a little more composure in the second half and began to make some serious attempts on goal. Ruth had a great game up front and created a few moments of real hope and encouragement for the team. Rachel played a stormer of a game as Sweeper, particularly in the second half, racing into every tackle and towards every 50-50 ball like her life depended on it. While it was a discouraging start to the season, the girls are determined to learn from the experience and are already looking forward to their next challenge.
The Senior team came away with a 0-0 draw after a thrilling game! This Senior team is surely one of the best that the Wilson's has seen. The intensity of the game felt like a cup final! The quality of the hockey was a joy to watch, and we can only begin to imagine how much it can be improved upon when the girls are regularly training on Astroturf. Each girl played really well, but a special mention to Alex and Ellen C made their debut for the school yesterday, and what a debut it was! Alex's composure in the back line was essential in the sticky moments. Ellen came on the pitch like a lightning bolt in the midfield adding instant impact with her energy. Welcome to Wilson's ladies, and keep up the great work.
Cross Country Running. Congratulations to all of our Athletes who participated in the Westmeath Schools Cross Country Championships in Belvedere today. It was a most enjoyable and successful day, which saw Wilson's Hospital School bring home eleven medals. Well done to all!
Rugby. The 1st Year Boys, Junior Boys and Senior Boys all have home matches today against St. Michael's, St. Finians and Roscrea respectively.

The senior rugby girls travelled to Carlow Rugby club to take part in the first Leinster Blitz of the season. For 5 of ours players this was their first ever rugby match after only 3 trainings but what they lacked in experience they most certainly made up with heart. Wilson’s scored tries in every single game they played and showed no fear. We won our first game and contested in all other games losing out by only one try in 3 of them. Marta R.C was our stand out player scoring 3 tries in total. Emma stood out for her tackling while all other players impressed Coach, Ms Butler who will find it very difficult to select players in the next game.
