Hockey. The Senior A Girls team were in action again today. It was a great game for the girls who really came into the game in the second half. Roisín set up a great shot from the sideline for Michaella who got the scoring started. A few minutes later, once again Roisín was involved and added to the scoreboard to give a 2-0 win to Wilson’s. Alex and Avril were key payers in keeping a tight defence while the Wilson's forwards kept Our Lady's Grove on their toes. A well deserved win for the girls.
The Senior B Girls team were away today against Loreto St. Stephen's Green. Despite great efforts unfortunately the girls came up against a stronger team. The Wilson's defence once again proved strong with Mary, Avril and Sarah always trying to stop attackers. Emma had a great game as sweeper and was fully involved in the Wilson's back line. Chinwe also had a great game in midfield leading the team and constantly showing her determination to get the ball. However, the scoreline was not in Wilson's favour with a 4-0 loss.
Rugby. The First and Second year Rugby teams continued their excellent start to the season this afternoon with respective victories over St Michael’s College.
For the First Year Boys Ciaran, Quaku, William and Sam were excellent throughout. Joel was eventually named Man of the Match for his excellent tackling and general work rate.
Sam, Micheal and Jude got two tries each with Rowland, Joel and Elliott getting one each. The final score 45-5 to Wilson’s with St Michael’s getting one try late in the game.
The Second Year Boys also played very well winning comfortably against St Michael’s 60-7. Tom, Eddie, Mateo and Owen the pick of the players with Mateo being named Man of the Match for the second game in a row.
The Senior Boys team travelled up to Blackrock to take on their Senior 3s. Already missing seven players through injury/detention, Wilson’s suffered early injuries to Ben and Evan at half back early in the game. Wilson’s battled throughout but lacked the structure and discipline to worry a strong Blackrock team. Eventually Blackrock ran out 40 point winners.
The Junior Girls Rugby team travelled to Mullingar RFC to play their U15s team. Mullingar caught the Wilson’s girls by surprise when they scored off the kick off. However this was a huge wake up and the girls were quick to respond with some great attacks from Carolyn, Lucia and Jenna to name a few.
Finally, we found ourselves just 10 meters short of the line and a huge drive by Faith was enough to get our name on the scoreboard. Mullingar didn’t give up though and scored five more tries throughout the game.
Wilson’s girls Chidera, Ruth, Marta, Isobel and Elena worked extremely hard in securing and stealing the ball while Emma, Aoibhin and Faith took advantage of this with great attacks resulting in a further four tries (3 from Faith and 1 from Emma). Unfortunately, we didn’t do enough to win the game losing by just one try. Faith was awarded Player of the Game. Thank you to the Mullingar girls and their coaches for hosting us and for a thoroughly enjoyable game.
