Tuesday 16th October.

Rugby. The WHS 1st Year Boys Rugby team made the short trip to Cavan RFC to take on their under 14 rugby team. This game was particularly special for Elliott and William as they were playing against their former team mates having played all of their underage rugby to date with Cavan. Cavan brought great physicality from the off and Wilson’s knew they were in a game right from the start. Cavan got the first try after some excellent work from their forwards.

Wilson’s finally settled into the game and got a nice try through very consistent number 8 Sam. Man of the match Michael added 2 further tries to ease the pressure on Wilson’s. His excellent footwork and eye for gaps continuously caused the Cavan defence problems.

As the game progressed Cavan added 3 further tries but Wilson’s continued to control the game getting tries at key times through Joel (3) and a length of the field individual try from Joel who showed outstanding paces to outrun all of the Cavan defence. Michael converted 4 tries leaving the final score 43-20 in favour of Wilson’s.

The platform for this win was paced up front by the work rate of Ciaran, Joel and particularly Kevin who has begun to shine through as one of the top tacklers on the team. In the backs William and Elliott clearly had a point to prove against their former team mates, while Rowland and Michael controlled the game very well.

Wednesday 17th October:

Hockey. Good luck to the Senior A and the Senior B girls hockey teams who have away fixtures against St. Wolstan's and Loreto Foxrock.

The Minor and Junior girls' hockey teams were in action this week. The Juniors played a league game against Skerries Community College and the Minors also had a league fixture against Donabate Community College. Sadly both teams were beaten. The Juniors had a particularly challenging game but did themselves proud. Even though things were not going their way, they maintained an excellent team spirit and encouraged one another to the end.

The Minors were caught on the hop in the early moments of the match and conceded a goal almost straight away. Donabate managed to add two more to this before the half-time whistle blew, including a magnificent reverse stroke into the top left corner of the goal. After a good chat at halftime, the Wilsonians went out like a new team and almost managed to keep a clean sheet for the second half. Donabate, however, put away one more goal from a short corner in the final minutes. It was a frustrating final score, but the Minors have come away with valuable experience, and some good lessons learned.

A special mention must go to Chidera, the Minor goalkeeper, who played in goal for both teams due to illness of our Junior keeper. She kept both teams in their games with some truly excellent saves!

Our captains and vice-captains for the year were also selected this week. Congratulations to Junior captain Ruth, and vice-captain Sadbh, and to Minor captain Faith and vice-captain Naoise.

Rugby. The Senior Boys Rugby team made it 2 wins from 2 in the League with a 49-7 win over St Mel’s, Longford.  The first half ended 21-7. Wilson’s gathering tries through David, Santos (his first for the school) and Sam. St Mel’s scored the last play of the first half.

The second half was one way traffic with Wilson’s adding tries through Alex, Ben, Conor and Evan. Sam converted 6 out of 7 tries taking his personal tally to 17 points in the game.

Up front Barry, Conor and Alex were to the fore again with David making some telling contributions with the ball in hand. In the backs it was good to see Ben get through a full game and grow in the number 10 role. Both Evans and Thomas played very well too. Man of the Match was Alex.

A win next week away to Naas CBS would guarantee the SCT progression to the knock out stages of the league.
