Rugby. Our Junior Boys Rugby Team hosted Athy in their post Christmas league. With all Third Years tied up in mocks a very youthful JCT team took the field boasting two TYs, twelve 2nd Years and 1 First Year.
Wilson's weathered lots of early Athy pressure to eventually take the lead after ten minutes. Right Wing Jorge showing some quick feet find space and dot down under the posts. Further tries from Nenpan and Sam left the half-time score 15-0 to WHS.
Athy were first out of the blocks in the second half. Some powerful carries from their pack allowed space out with for them to manufacture a well worked try. Their fight back was short lived as soon after a rally of tries from Eddie (2), Sam, Tom and Matthew C put the game to bed. An excellent try saving tackle from Eoghan was a highlight of this dominant second half performance. Final Score 42-10.
In the pack Matthew, Ross, Sam and Eddie had a big part to play in this win, while Mateo, Nenpan, and Jorge were the pick of the backs. Man of the Match goes to Tom who played number ten - a constant treat with the ball in hand and provided an excellent link between the backs and the forwards.
The First Year Boys Rugby team hosted Mt Temple and continued their recent good run eventually winning 48-17.
This was an excellent test for this young group who were missing talisman Sam who had been called up to the JCT. Early scores from Kwaku, Jude and Elliott gave WHS control of what was a very competitive first half. Jude’s try was the highlight of the match. An excellent break by Samuel on the right wing gained sixty meters for Wilson's. Quick hands in the mid field from Rowland, Elliott and William allowed Jude score in the left hand corner.
In the second half Wilson's added tries through Kwaku, Michael, William and Joel. Michael kicked some excellent conversions in tough conditions. Mt Temple to their credit never game up and added three tries of their own.
The pack were again excellent with Ciaran, Joel, Kevin and Charlie all having fine games. In the backs there were excellent performances from 9 to 15. Scott made a fantastic impact when introduced - making five tackles and looking dangerous with the ball in hand.
Ciaran was named Man of the Match for another all action display. Rowland made an excellent impact at scrumhalf.
