Rugby. The Girls Rugby teams were in action in Birr RFC where they took part in a Blitz with 2 other schools from Birr and Edenderry. The Senior girls played some excellent rugby scoring more than 14 tries in total for the two games. Maria and Martha’s tally accounted for more than ten of those scores. Isa, Ellen, Carolyn, Sandra and Alex also added scores for the team. Avril, Emma, Roisin, Ellen and Isa were of huge importance in making a lot of the scores through securing of the ball in the rucks and their carries which drew the opposition team in allowing for spaces to open up on the wings for our scorers. Isa who didn’t miss a tackle all day and carried the ball making ground every time was Wilson’s player of the match in the senior games.

The Juniors who drew inspiration after watching the seniors play their first game went on to score 26 tries in total in their two games. Both Ruth’s scored ten tries between them while Faith scored seven. Aoibhin, Jenna, Rose, Isobel and team captain Elena also added scores to the board. Adaobi, Julia and the team worked tirelessly in defence and made sure we retained the ball when we managed to steal possession. Ruth and Faith were our stand out performers and were joint players of the match.  Well done to all girls involved!

Rugby. Our Senior Boys Rugby Team travelled to Donnybrook Stadium to take on Gormanston College in the Leinster League final.  It was always going to be a big challenge for the boy’s considering they hadn’t played a game in a few weeks.  Wilson’s started the first half strongly with lots of possession and kept Gormanston pinned down in their own half.  Wilson’s got a try from Conor and David and a conversion from Ben W to leave the score 12-5 to Wilson’s at half time.

The boys knew that Gormanston were a strong second half team from previous experience and that they needed to get a score quickly to keep Gormanston under pressure.  Unfortunately it was a game of two halves.  Gormanston had all the possession in the second half and scored a few tries quickly in the second half.  Wilson’s responded with the last try of the game from Owen and a conversion from Ben W, but it was too little too late.  The final score was 36-19 to Gormanston.

The Senior Boys had a good season and even though they brought home no silverware, they trained and tried their hardest all season.  They got into the knockout stages of every competition they were in.  They would like to thank everyone who has coached, helped, supported and followed them throughout the year.
