A variety of events are taking place throughout the week to make Science Week. Here is a small flavour of things that are taking place outside and inside the normal school timetable. There are more pictures on the school's Facebook page.
On Thursday pupils from St. Cremin's NS Multyfarnham were in WHS to carry out various scientific experiments.
On Tuesday the Form 1 followed by the Form 5 pupils presented their Scifest projects to the judges and other pupils who questioned them about the purpose of the projects, the work involved and their results. The projects ranged from The Growth of Nails, to the Interpretation of Body Language and the affect of different types of light on plant growths. On Thursday 6th year students who study a science and some Form 4 students went to DIT to take part in science activities there.
On Thursday evening six Leaving Cert pupils represented the school in Athlone IT at the annual table quiz organised by the Irish Science Teachers Association (ISTA). Both teams finished in the top 10 out of 34 teams and also finished with equal points. Well done to Team 1, Victor, James and Rebecca and Team 2, Elizabeth, Lydia and Isaiah.
On Friday the school was involved in a science experiment in assembly to see if the appearance of liquids affects what people think the flavour is.
All three classes of 3rd year pupils took part in a science treasure hunt around the school on Friday. They were divided into groups of three. The winning team was Emmanuel, Nenpan and Rowland. Jenson, Harry and Ricky came second and Eoin, Victor and Evan came third.
Form 1 pupils took part in table quizes during their science classes.
